Taking up a challenge

by Rod 11. October 2008 03:16

I recently had an interesting challenge at work; without going into the details the main problem was a complex application deployment on the web server.
There was an easy and quick way to deploy it by installing something that would make the web server slower and probably more vulnerable, and then there was the best way to do it.

I decided not to take the the easy way out, but to do it the best way. I tried for two days without looking back. At the end the whole thing took 5 minutes, but the result was 10 times better and faster.
I never gave up searching and I didn't quit the challenge.
Once you start quitting and saying no to challenges, you start giving in to obstacles you might face during your climb.
After that you're not climbing anymore...

one concern...you have the ability to look back and resolve the problem..but what if an individual feels stuck and does not know what to do next. what if the individual is lost and does not know how to continue... how can you advise them?

Personal thoughts...not advice :
If that person is lost and doesn't know how to continue it means he/she didn't set any goals. By setting goals, even if they are daily goals, it would help find that person's rhythm of achievement and slowly they will find themselves more capable then they ever thought; opening new paths they never thought about and discovering great potential.

If that person is already on a challenge and stuck : when there is really no other alternative and you have tried everything and gave your whole 100%, asking for help is never a bad idea.

One of Solomon's Proverbs : "Wise Children make their fathers proud of them; foolish ones bring their mothers grief".  I am very happy for you and so proud of you! (Remember the day of the baccalaureat, when I told you:" Rod, don't be afraid, whatever the result is I will always be proud of you!" I am still telling you the same today I am proud of you because you set up a goal in your life and you are walking toward achieving it. Be sure that your hard work will always blossom because you are honest, hard worker, sensible, you are from those good people and good people will be remembered as a blessing and good people will receive blessings. I hereby wish you all the success you so deserve! Congratulations. Mom.

I did like your personal thoughs for Bicho, and if I might add there is a nice book: "Success through a Positive Mental Attitude" by Napoleon Hill, author of THINK AND GROW RICH, which I found quite interesting to read.
